Wayfinder Art Lab - Open Sessions

A Space for Creative Exploration, Conversation, and Progress

At Wayfinder Art Lab, our Open Sessions are designed for artists, makers, and curious minds who want to develop their practice, engage in meaningful conversations, and explore new ideas in a supportive and inspiring environment. These sessions are not traditional classes—they’re open, flexible, and participant-led, with guidance and various resources at your disposal.

Whether you’re working on a personal project, experimenting with new techniques, or simply seeking a space to create alongside others, these sessions provide the time, tools, and community to help you move forward.

We believe art and creativity should be accessible to everyone. Choose the price that fits your situation:

  • Supported: For those who need financial assistance.
  • Standard: Covers our costs and keeps us running.
  • Supporter: Helps us offer lower prices to others.
  • No proof required—we trust you to choose fairly.

We rely on honesty and mutual respect to keep this project accessible. Please choose the tier that fits your situation, and be mindful of others who may need support more than you.

What to Expect

Our Open Sessions blend the best elements of creative progress, open studio time, and thought-provoking conversations.
Here’s what you can look forward to:

1. Open Studio: Creative Progress

  • Focus: Dedicated time to work on your own projects in a shared space.
  • Atmosphere: Quiet, productive, and collaborative. Bring your supplies or use ours.
  • Guidance: Light supervision and tips on request—whether you’re stuck, experimenting, or refining your work.
  • Materials: Access to basic tools and materials (paint, paper, printmaking supplies, etc.), with optional material packs
  • Best for: Those who want uninterrupted creative time with the option for occasional input.

2. Open Art Studio: Exploration and Play

  • Focus: Experiment freely with materials, techniques, and ideas.
  • Atmosphere: Playful, exploratory, and low-pressure. Try something new or revisit an old passion.
  • Guidance: Demonstrations and informal workshops on request (e.g., "How do I use the gel plate?" or "Can you show me linocut basics?").
  • Materials: Stations set up for printmaking, mixed media, digital art, and more. Rotating materials to spark inspiration.
  • Best for: Those who want to dabble, doodle, discover, or push their creative boundaries in a supportive setting.

3. Open Conversations: Depth and Connection

  • Focus: Discussions about art, process, and ideas—because creativity thrives on dialogue.
  • Atmosphere: Thoughtful, engaging, and participant-driven. Share your work, ask questions, or simply listen.
  • Guidance: Facilitated conversations on themes like:
    - The role of art in society (e.g., protest, memory, or industrial heritage).
    - Creative blocks and breakthroughs (e.g., "How do you start a new series?").
    - Technical or conceptual challenges (e.g., "How do I translate this idea into a print?").
  • Materials: None required—just bring your curiosity. Sketchbooks and notes welcome!
  • Best for: Those who want to connect, reflect, and grow through shared dialogue.
